Ash Wednesday
For the Western Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Anglican Christian calendars, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter. During Masses and special worship services on this day, adherents of the faith may receive an ash cross on their foreheads as a sign of repentance.
